Senior Vice President and Chief Quality and Safety Officer

Dr. Mbonu Ikezuagu serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Quality and Safety Officer for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLH). In this role, he provides executive leadership for the health system’s quality, patient safety, and high‑reliability strategy, with a focus on delivering safe, effective, patient‑centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care across the continuum.

Dr. Ikezuagu brings more than 15 years of experience advancing quality, safety, and population health in complex health systems. Prior to joining MLH, he served as Vice President and Chief Quality and Safety Officer at ThedaCare Health System in Wisconsin, where he led the organization to sustained top‑decile quality performance, including CMS 5‑Star ratings and top‑decile results in value‑based care programs such as the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) and Accountable Care Organization (ACO) initiatives.

Dr. Ikezuagu has extensive clinical experience in internal medicine and has served as Associate Medical Director for an Internal Medicine Residency Program. In this role, he led faculty and resident professional development and precepted medical students and residents in both acute and ambulatory care settings. In parallel, he held system leadership roles in population health, utilization management, and clinical documentation improvement, focused on improving outcomes, optimizing value, and reducing unwarranted variation in care.

Dr. Ikezuagu earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of the District of Columbia and a Master of Health Services Administration from The George Washington University. He completed medical school and residency training in Ohio. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Certified Physician Executive through the American Association for Physician Leadership.
