Care for Your Emotional and Physical Well-being
Mental health often gets less attention than physical health, but it plays a key role in your overall health and well-being. If you’re struggling with your mental health, the behavioral health specialists at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis and the surrounding areas are here to help.
Behavioral and mental health conditions are common, affecting roughly 20% of adults in the United States. Unfortunately, many people experience symptoms of these conditions but don’t seek a diagnosis and treatment, often due to stigma, lack of awareness or limited access to care. Recognizing the importance of mental health is the first step toward finding help and getting back to feeling your best.
Your mental health deserves your attention, and we’re here to provide the care you need. We offer a wide range of services systemwide to treat mental health and substance use disorders, as well as to support good mental health in general.
We’re committed to providing this care to people across our Mid-South communities, offering services that treat the whole person — mind, body and soul.
What Is Behavioral Health?
The terms “mental health” and “behavioral health” are often used interchangeably, but they mean different things.
Mental health is related to your emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects your thoughts, decisions, feelings and actions, how you manage stress, and how you relate to the people around you. Behavioral health is a broader term related to how behaviors impact your mental and physical health.
Behavioral health specialists can diagnose, treat and help you manage mental health conditions and behavioral health issues that can affect you physically and mentally, such as substance use disorders or memory concerns.
Behavioral health specialists can also help you develop coping mechanisms, tools and strategies to support your overall health and wellness. For example, they can help you quit smoking, manage stress more effectively, care for yourself while caring for a sick or disabled loved one and create healthy lifestyle habits.

Behavioral Health Services at Methodist Le Bonheur Health
We offer inpatient and outpatient care for these and many other conditions tailored to your specific needs and the severity of your condition.
You can find care in multiple settings at Methodist Le Bonheur, including our Integrated Behavioral Health program, which is embedded within some of our adult and pediatric medical clinics. These clinics offer counseling/psychology services, as well as psychiatry services.
Our services are also available at our dedicated Methodist Behavioral Health Center and the Dennis H. Jones Living Well Network.
The integrated behavioral health program gives you easy access to behavioral health services through your Methodist Medical Group provider.
You can schedule an appointment with your primary care provider to discuss symptoms affecting your mental health. Your primary care provider can refer you to a behavioral healthcare consultant in the office, or you can call 901-567-7415 to speak with our Patient Referral Coordinator, who will schedule an appointment with one of our licensed mental health clinicians. You may be able to be seen on the same day you request services. Otherwise, we will schedule you for the next available appointment, either in-person or virtually, depending on your preference and clinical needs.
Our behavioral health consultants are highly trained, experienced psychologists, professional counselors or clinical social workers who provide a range of services, from stress management and establishing healthy habits to treating depression and other serious conditions. Their goal is to offer personalized, compassionate care that empowers you to navigate life’s challenges and improve your overall mental health and well-being. They collaborate closely with our team of psychiatric nurse practitioners who ensure that you receive the best evidence-based psychotherapy and medication options to help you feel better as quickly as possible.
The Methodist Behavioral Health Center, located at Methodist North Hospital, cares for people experiencing severe or even life-threatening mental health issues or substance abuse.
Methodist Behavioral Health Center provides intensive inpatient care with 24/7 monitoring and support. Patients have access to comprehensive treatment options, including medication management, stabilization from acute psychiatric emergencies, social work services, substance detoxification, individual and group therapy, and recreation groups.
If you're experiencing a mental health crisis, you can self-refer to Methodist Behavioral Health Center by going to the Methodist North Emergency Department and requesting a psychiatric evaluation. We also accept referrals from healthcare providers, employers, community social workers, Shelby County Behavioral Health Services and other sources.
Feeling stressed, sad or worried? Even if you are not yet a Methodist patient, help is available through the Dennis H. Jones Living Well Network, where you can find support and resources for your behavioral health needs.
The Living Well Network connects you with the services you need within the Methodist Le Bonheur system and throughout our community.
