Hospice Residence to Break Ground in November

Methodist Hospice Residence was granted an extension to the current Certificate of Need (CON) by the Health Services and Development Agency for the State of Tennessee to build a residential hospice in Memphis.

The original certificate in 2007 gave the health system one year to begin work on the project. The extension will allow Methodist to build a LEED-certified facility, which would make it environmentally friendly.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to evaluate the environmental performance of a building. LEED for Healthcare addresses issues such as increased sensitivity to chemicals and pollutants, traveling distances from parking facilities, and access to natural spaces.

Methodist will break ground in November 2009 on a 30-bed facility with six acres on Quince Road. Residence construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2010.

The residence will provide acute care rooms for those who require symptom and pain management and short-term residential beds for those who cannot be cared for at home. Up to five of the rooms will be available to convert for the end-of-life care for infants and children.

All of the rooms will be located on the first floor with a unique design allowing the patient’s bed to be wheeled into the outside gardens. Gardens and walking paths will be featured so that those who cannot go outside everyday can enjoy a view of the landscape.

Donate Now to the Methodist Hospice Residence or call 901.516.0500 and find out more about Ways to Give. Methodist Hospice will use a combination of funds from Methodist Healthcare and private donations to build the residence.
