Our Clinics

Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute, in partnership with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, operates two independent Outpatient Clinics: The Transplant Outpatient Clinic and the Center for Advanced Liver Diseases.

Transplant Outpatient Clinic

Located on the first floor of Methodist University Hospital, the Transplant Outpatient Clinic provides pre and post-transplant care to kidney, liver and pancreas transplant patients. Services include:

Pre Clinic
To be considered for transplant, patients will undergo a full medical evaluation and input from several medical professionals. This evaluation is performed in the Pre-Clinic by our team of the transplant surgeons, hepatologists/nephrologists, pre-coordinator nurses, financial case managers, and social workers. The medical evaluation is a series of tests dependent upon the specifics of each case. The surgeon reviews the results of this medical examination to further determine eligibility.

Approved candidates will receive written confirmation and be listed with the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), a non-profit scientific and educational organization that administers the only national patient waiting list. Once listed with UNOS, ongoing patient evaluations must be performed at regular intervals to determine continual eligibility for transplantation. Should an organ become available, it is offered to a patient on the list based on a defined set of criteria established by UNOS.

Post Clinic
Once a transplant is performed, patients transition from the Pre-Clinic to the Post-Clinic. Our multi-disciplinary team continues to monitor the medical condition of patients for as long as medical care is necessary. Follow up care includes, but is not limited to, regularly scheduled evaluations, on-going immunosuppressive drug therapy, prescription refills and lab reviews.
